FAQs

1How Do I Add Detergent to a Top-Loading Washing Machine?

Adding detergent is a fundamental step, and methods vary by model:

  • For machines with a dispenser compartment, add a measured amount of detergent as per the detergent manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Always follow the detergent’s instructions for the correct measurement based on load size to avoid residue or inefficiency.

2How Should I Load Clothes into a Top-Loading Washing Machine?

Proper loading ensures effective cleaning and prevents machine damage:

  • Load garments in loose piles evenly around the wall of the washer basket to allow free movement. Avoid tightly packing or overloading the machine as this can lead to uneven cleaning and overloading will place strain on the bearings and can result in bearing collapse.
  • Add clothes before the water starts to fill, as this helps distribute detergent evenly across the load.
  • Follow the capacity and load size stipulated in the owner’s manual for your machine. Do not load garments more than three-quarters full.

3Where Do I Add Fabric Softener in a Top-Loading Washing Machine?

Fabric softener enhances fabric feel, and its placement depends on the machine:

  • If there’s a designated dispenser, add it before starting the cycle, diluting with warm water to the “Max Fill” line if required.
  • Some users prefer a Downy ball, which releases automatically during the rinse, offering flexibility with any softener brand.

4Where Do I Add Bleach in a Top-Loading Washing Machine?

Bleach is used for whitening and disinfecting, with placement varying by model:

  • Use the designated bleach dispenser if available, add it before the cycle starts.
  • If there’s no dispenser, add bleach directly to the running water during the wash cycle. Be very cautious, as older machines may lack a specific compartment, potentially risking damage to clothes or the machine if added incorrectly.

5What Are the Cycle Settings on a Top-Loading Washing Machine?

Cycle settings cater to different laundry needs, some examples include:

  • Regular, Colours, Whites, Delicates, Jeans, Active Wear, Heavy Duty, Normal Wash, Eco Wash, Bulky, Duvets, Towels, Quick Wash, Synthetic, Tub Clean.
  • Always refer to your machine’s user manual for specific options, as settings vary by brand and model.

6Can I Control My Top-Loading Washing Machine From My Mobile Phone?

Yes, if you have a smart top-loading washer. Smart features are increasingly common, enhancing convenience. You can download an app on your mobile phone to schedule cycles, select settings, and track progress. This requires Wi-Fi and the app, with features subject to change.

7What Innovative Features Do Top-Loading Washing Machines Have?

Modern top-loaders offer advanced features for improved performance. Examples include Pre Soak, Extra Rinse, Turbo, Hygiene, Delay End, Wi-Fi.

8Do Top-Loading Washing Machines Use a Lot of Water?

Water usage is a common concern however modern designs have improved efficiency:

  • Top-loaders generally use more water than front-loading machines, but research suggests they still clean effectively with less water than traditionally thought, thanks to advancements in technology.
  • For example, new models may use less water than older models, aligning with energy-saving trends, though exact usage depends on the cycle and model.

9Why is E1 displayed on my washing machine?

E1 explanation: Abnormal Water Inlet. The water level fails to reach the set level after exceeding 30 minutes, or the water level changes little within 30 minutes.

Possible reasons for the E1 error code being displayed.

  • The faucet is not turned on
  • The inlet pipe is bent
  • Low water pressure or water outage
  • The inlet valve is blocked
  • The wiring of the inlet valve is disconnected or broken
  • Inlet valve damaged
  • Water leakage, water is entering and draining at the same time
  • Water level sensor malfunction
  • PCB damaged

10Why is E2 displayed on my washing machine?

E2 explanation: Drainage Problems. The drainage time has exceeded the set time and has failed to drain completely. The set time varies between models but is usually between 10 minutes and 15 minutes.

Possible reasons for the E2 error code being displayed.

  • Check if the drainage pipe is squeezed or bent.
  • Check if the height of the drainage outlet is too high.
  • Check if the drainage pipe is blocked.
  • The traction wire rope has broken or has come out.
  • The terminals of the traction motor might be poorly connected, or the wiring harness is broken
  • Traction motor damaged
  • PCB damaged

11Why is E3 displayed on my washing machine?

E3 explanation: Door Left Open. During operation, the washing machine door is opened, or the drum impact switch is disconnected during operation.

Possible reasons for the E3 error code being displayed.

  • The washing machine door is not closed.
  • The door magnetic switch and magnet might be loose or missing.
  • The impact switch may be faulty
  • The wiring harness is open circuit
  • PCB damaged

12Why is E4 displayed on my washing machine?

E4 explanation: Imbalance Error. During the spin function, if the drum is in an unbalanced state and repeatedly hits the drum switch, it can prevent the dehydration process from functioning properly.

Possible reasons for the E4 error code being displayed.

  • Check if the washing machine is correctly levelled to prevent shaking.
  • The laundry load is not evenly distributed or balanced
  • Faulty impact switch

13Why is E5 displayed on my washing machine?

E5 explanation: Impact switch Signal Disconnected. If the impact switch signal remains disconnected for more than 2 seconds, the machine enters an alarm state. After this error occurs, the washing machine shuts down all loads and enters an error state. However, if the door is closed, you can restore operation by pressing the start/pause button.

Possible reasons for the E5 error code being displayed.

  • The water bucket is offset due to the loads weight unevenly distributed and presses against the impact switch lever.
  • The terminals of the impact switch are loose or disconnected.
  • PCB fault
  • The impact switch is damaged
  • The wires are broken or disconnected

14Why is F8 displayed on my washing machine?

F8 explanation: Water Level Sensor Fault. After power-on, the program continuously monitors the frequency of the water level sensor. If the frequency is not within the normal range an alarm will be triggered. Once the alarm is triggered, the machine will enter an error state and shut down all loads.

Possible reasons for the F8 error code being displayed.

  • The wiring harness and terminals are abnormal
  • The water level sensor is functioning properly
  • PCB damaged

18Why does the water drain out immediately from my Washing Machine while filling?

The outlet pipe (drain hose) of a top loading washing machine should be placed so that the highest point of the hose is approximately 100cm from the floor. This ensures proper drainage and prevents siphoning of dirty water back into the machine and also prevents water continuously draining while filling. The drain hose should be connected to a standpipe or drain that can handle the water flow and prevent overflow. Please refer to your user manual for the correct placement of the drain hose.

19What are the differences between a top loader and a front loader washing machine?

Comparing top-loaders to front-loaders can clarify user preferences. Front-load and top load washing machines each have their own advantages, making the better choice depends on individual needs and preferences. Front-loaders generally offer superior cleaning, energy efficiency, and gentler fabric care, while top-loaders are typically faster, more versatile for large items, and easier to load. Top-loaders allow adding items mid-cycle, but front-loaders may clean better and use less water.

Front loaders are prone to mould, mildew, and odour over time. That’s because the rubber gasket around the door, which keeps water inside during a wash cycle, traps this water after a cycle and creates a damp environment that allows mould and mildew to thrive. Some front loaders are stackable and can work well in small spaces.

Choose a front Loader if:

  • You have limited space and need a compact, stackable option.
  • Energy and water efficiency are top priorities.
  • You seek gentle fabric care and effective soil removal.

Choose a top loader if:

  • You need a versatile machine that can handle large, bulky items.
  • Loading convenience and less bending are important to you.
  • You require higher water flexibility and quick wash cycles.
  • You prefer robust stain removal and cleaning efficiency.
